Purchasing a Two-Flat

Here we are in front of our little brick rowhouse:

Purchasing a two-flat was a great option for us.  I love the historic details: the brick exterior, high ceilings, original hardwood floors, crown moldings, walk-in kitchen pantry, and crystal doorknobs.  My husband is handy enough to build out what we need, and we got this house in our dream locale for a reasonable price.

An important thing to remember when purchasing a two-flat is all of the "landlord" stipulations.  It was a different process than just becoming a homeowner, because we had to prove enough funds to be a landlord. Even though we do not intend to be landlords, we had to fulfill all of the stipulations in order to close on the property.

We closed on April 1, 2014 -- took the keys and shared a bottle of wine on a bare living room floor.
